    Jesus Tattoo in Los Angeles

A portrait of Christ is one of the most requested religious tattoos and one of the least forgiving. The face carries the whole piece: a small shift in shadow changes the expression from calm to strained. At KAZENTATTOO on Melrose Avenue, Vladimir Kozachenko designs Jesus tattoos in black and grey realism, drawing on classical painting and sculpture rather than ready-made flash.

    Common Compositions

    • The face of Christ with the crown of thorns - the most requested version, suited to the forearm, calf, upper arm or chest.
    • Christ on the cross - needs vertical space: the back, the outer arm or the calf.
    • The Sacred Heart - a symbolic image that combines well with roses, rays of light or ornament.
    • Christ with the Virgin Mary, angels or Saint Michael - multi-figure scenes planned for a sleeve or a back piece.
    • Praying hands, a rosary or a cross - smaller elements, often added around a main portrait.

What Keeps It Readable Over Time

Realism depends on contrast. Soft grey with no strong darks blurs as skin ages, so the face is built with clear deep shadows around the eyes, the beard and the crown. Details smaller than skin can hold, such as single thorns or tiny lettering, are simplified or enlarged at the design stage.

    Placement

    • Forearm and calf: a single face portrait.
    • Upper arm and shoulder: the face with the crown, light and drapery.
    • Chest: the face or the Sacred Heart, on the sternum or one side of the chest.
    • Back: the crucifixion and multi-figure scenes.
    • Sleeve: Christ as the central image, with architecture, clouds or saints around it.

    Planning Your Visit

    Age

We tattoo and pierce adults only - 18 and over, no exceptions. California law makes tattooing anyone under 18 a misdemeanour (Penal Code 653) and the Safe Body Art Act sets the same limit (Health and Safety Code 119302). The state does allow piercing a minor with a parent or guardian present, and bans nipple and genital piercing on minors outright, but our own rule is simply 18 and over.

    Consultation

Free. Text us, call the studio, or come in - the front desk answers the practical questions and the artist takes the design ones.

    Booking and deposit

A deposit secures your date and comes off the final price. Some artists take walk-ins for small work; large projects are booked with a specific artist and often months ahead. Guest artists from other states and countries work here through the year.

    Sessions

A working day usually runs from noon to around 6pm, sometimes 7pm, with breaks; artists set their own pace and their own day.

    Touch-ups

A touch-up after healing is free when the artist judges the piece needs one - they will tell you at the end of the session or when you send healed photos.

    FAQ

    Jesus Tattoo Questions

How big should a Jesus portrait tattoo be?

The face needs enough room for the eyes and expression to stay readable for years. The exact size is agreed at the consultation, based on the placement.

Can a Jesus tattoo be combined with the Virgin Mary or Saint Michael?

Yes. Multi-figure religious compositions are planned as one design, usually for a sleeve or a back piece.

Will you copy a photo or painting I bring?

References are welcome. The final design is drawn for your body and placement rather than copied.

How many sessions does it take?

It depends on size and detail. A forearm portrait takes fewer sessions than a back piece; the estimate is given after the consultation.
