At KAZENTATTOO on Melrose Ave, fine line and minimal work is handled by Amina and Marrie. Both work in fine line and minimalism, and each piece is designed around the placement rather than adapted from a stock design.
Fine line suits lettering and script, botanical and floral motifs, small symbolic pieces, jewellery-like ornamental work, and delicate additions to an existing composition.
Placement matters more in fine line than in any other style. Thin lines behave differently on the ribs, the inner arm, the hand or the ankle, and skin that moves or stretches will change a thin line faster than a bold one. If a design needs to be scaled up or simplified so it still reads well years later, we will tell you.

Planning Your Visit
Age
We tattoo and pierce adults only - 18 and over, no exceptions. California law makes tattooing anyone under 18 a misdemeanour (Penal Code 653) and the Safe Body Art Act sets the same limit (Health and Safety Code 119302). The state does allow piercing a minor with a parent or guardian present, and bans nipple and genital piercing on minors outright, but our own rule is simply 18 and over.
Consultation
Free. Text us, call the studio, or come in - the front desk answers the practical questions and the artist takes the design ones.
Booking and deposit
A deposit secures your date and comes off the final price. Some artists take walk-ins for small work; large projects are booked with a specific artist and often months ahead. Guest artists from other states and countries work here through the year.
Sessions
A working day usually runs from noon to around 6pm, sometimes 7pm, with breaks; artists set their own pace and their own day.
Touch-ups
A touch-up after healing is free when the artist judges the piece needs one - they will tell you at the end of the session or when you send healed photos.
Languages
Russian, English and Serbian are spoken in the studio.

7224 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles. Street parking on Melrose, plus a paid all-day lot across the road; the studio has no lot of its own. The entrance is on Melrose with no step, and the restroom is wheelchair accessible. Open 12pm to 8pm, seven days.

Do fine line tattoos age well?
Fine line work ages well when the design, the placement and the line weight are chosen with ageing in mind. Very thin lines placed too close together will blur into each other over years as ink settles under the skin, so spacing and scale matter more in fine line than in any other style. Placement matters too: areas with more friction and sun exposure, like hands, fingers and feet, soften faster than an inner forearm or a shoulder.
How long do fine line tattoos last, and do they fade?
A fine line tattoo is permanent, but it will soften over the years like any tattoo. Thin lines carry less ink than bold ones, so the same amount of natural fading is simply more visible. Sun protection is the single biggest factor you control. A light touch-up years later restores crispness if you want it.
How small can a fine line tattoo be?
There is a practical limit. Below a certain size the details stop being readable, and lines that sit too close together will merge as the tattoo heals and ages. At the consultation the design is scaled to the part of the body it will live on, so that it still reads clearly in five and ten years rather than only on the day it is done.
Does a fine line tattoo hurt less?
Fine line work usually uses fewer needles and less packing than heavy black or colour work, and sessions are often shorter, so many people find it easier to sit through. Sensation still depends far more on placement than on style: ribs, sternum, spine, hands and feet are sensitive for everyone.
